This month, the students at CLE are learning more about nutrition and are talking about how fruits and vegetables are healthy for their bodies. We are using the colors of the rainbow to go into depth about which parts of our bodies are affected. Here are the health benefits of some fruits and vegetables.
Red apples, strawberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, radishes, etc. are good for our heart
Orange bell peppers, oranges, squash, pumpkins, cantaloupe, etc. are good for our vision and heart
Yellow/White/Brown bananas, lemons, onions, garlic, potatoes, cauliflower, etc. are good for lowering cholesterol and making our heart strong
Green leafy greens, broccoli, limes, avocadoes, kiwi, collards, etc. are good for our bones, teeth, brain, and gut
Blue/Purple blueberries, purple cabbage, grapes, raisins, plums, eggplant, etc. are good for our brain
To celebrate making our bodies healthy, we made a rainbow smoothie and toasted to being healthy strong students.
To make the rainbow smoothie: Mix 1 cup strawberries, 1 cup orange juice (fresh=3 oranges), 1 banana, a large handful of spinach, a small handful of mint/basil, 1 cup blueberries, and ½ cup Greek yogurt (no added sugar or flavoring) in a blender. Enjoy!
